Frequently Asked Questions
When do I get admitted to the University as a Pre-Master of Arts in Teaching student?
You may submit your application for admission at any time prior to the deadline dates set by the Office of Admissions for each semester. You do not have to wait to apply until after you receive the completed PMAT transcript evaluation from the College of Education and Health Professions. However, if you are undecided about going this route, you may want to wait and review the results of the evaluation before making your decision and paying the application fee.
When do I register?
New admits will register during the last open registration period for each semester. Readmitted students will register during priority registration on the scheduled time for readmitted students. Continuing PMAT students will register during priority registration on the scheduled time for seniors.
How do I register?
Use ISIS, the University of Arkansas online registration system at http://www.isis.uark.edu/. Your program will be EDUC and your plan will be PMAT.
When does the MAT program begin?
All MAT programs begin in the summer.
Who is my advisor?
Your department will assign your advisor after you have full admission as a PMAT student.
Is there financial assistance for Pre-MAT students?
Contact the Office of Financial Aid at (479) 75-3806 or http://www.uark.edu/admin/fininfo/index.html if more information is desired. PMAT students may also be eligible for scholarships offered through the College of Education and Health Professions.
What if I would like to speak with someone about my completed PMAT evaluation?
Appointments with the PMAT evaluator should be scheduled after the evaluation is complete, and your faculty advisor has been assigned. You must be fully admitted as a UA student.
When will I be licensed?
Upon posting of the MAT degree, completed application packets are sent to Professional Licensure in Little Rock by the coordinator of teacher education at the University of Arkansas. Approximately 4 weeks after receipt of the appropriate documents in Little Rock, the Arkansas Department of Education will then issue a teaching license to the applicant.
How do I add another area to my current teaching license?
If you currently hold a teacher's license in a standard area and will be teaching out of your licensure area, consult the additional licensure plan rules and procedures set by the Arkansas Department of Education. Your school district will need to file an Additional Licensure Plan form with the Arkansas Department of Education, and the forms may be downloaded from the bottom section of this part of the state's Web site. You can find programs of study for additional licensure areas here.Page last updated: 4/16/2007 10:46
