Human resource program celebrates 10th anniversary

Students tell of job promotions; UA system president praises Hinton, faculty

It was near the end of the evening when a member of the videotaping crew asked student service coordinator Phil Gerke about getting into the human resource development program at the University of Arkansas.

Maybe the videographer was inspired by the testimonials given by former students who told of being promoted by their employers to positions of greater responsibility and reward. Maybe he was entertained by the catchy slideshow with images of smiling students and faculty members flashing across triple screens as Kool and the Gang's "Celebration" played. Maybe he met some of the officials from other institutions of higher learning across the state that play a part in the program's success. Read More »

College Event April 28 Honors Clark, Jones

The College of Education and Health Professions will honor Dr. Margaret Clark of Fayetteville, professor emerita in the department of curriculum and instruction, and Dr. Bobby W. Jones of Richmond Hill, Va., commander of the Tuttle Army Health Clinic on Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Ga., at a program April 28.

Clark and Jones are two of 10 winners of Silas Hunt Legacy Awards who will be recognized by the University of Arkansas that day for their contributions to the university, the state, the nation and the world. Read More »

Nan Smith Blair

NIH Grant Funds Emphysema Research

Nan Smith-Blair, assistant professor in the University of Arkansas Eleanor Mann School of Nursing, has won a National Institutes of Health grant of $200,000 to fund work that could improve the lives of patients with emphysema. Read More »

Writing Project Produces First Book

Quick writes can start with anything -- an advertisement for cereal, a basket filled with rocks, shells or nests, a poem about a teacher's persona, a newspaper story about a man seeking an heir. Teachers may have students pick up the storyline of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" one year later or describe someone they admire for characteristics that go beyond the popular images of skin-deep beauty.
