Careers in Sports and Fitness

Here are some of the degrees offered by the University of Arkansas College of Education and Health Professions which can lead to a career in sports and fitness.

B.S.E. in Kinesiology
  • Concentration in Exercise Science - Exercise Physiology/Biomechanics prepares students to enter advanced degree programs leading to employment in university settings as teachers/researchers.
  • Concentration in Exercise Science - Pre-Professional prepares students to pursue professional opportunities in allied health science fields, medical school or physical therapy school.
  • Concentration in Exercise Science - Fitness Specialist allows graduates to work in hospitals or in fitness areas to write and implement exercise prescriptions for individuals including working as a personal trainer or strength and conditioning coach.
  • Concentration in Exercise Science - Pre-Athletic Training is for students interested in exercise science with a core of athletic training courses.
B.S.E. in Recreation

The Bachelor of Science in Education in Recreation prepares students to enter the recreational work force at an entry level position or pursue graduate studies in such areas as public and commercial recreation management, sports management and outdoor adventure leadership.

M.S. in Kinesiology
  • Concentration in Exercise Science prepares students with the advanced knowledge and skills needed to become American College of Sports Medicine certified fitness directors.
  • Concentration in Adapted Movement Science prepares students to work in either hospital or clinical environments with people who have disabilities.
  • Concentration in Athletic Training prepares students to work as health care professionals for sports medicine clinics and hospitals.
M.Ed. in Recreation
  • Concentration in Recreation Management prepares students to be directors and superintendents of recreation for communities, directors of recreation and intramural sports for universities, and managers of other leisure services.
  • Concentration in Sport Management prepares students to work in sport settings in universities and professional sports.
  • Concentration in Therapeutic Recreation prepares students for national certification and to work with people with disabilities in a variety of settings.
