Indonesian Students Describe Tsunami
Dewi Fitriani is a slight young woman with a wide smile who laughs easily. She is studying to be a teacher. Like many University of Arkansas students, she left family members behind when she moved to Fayetteville.
But Dewi’s family is a bit farther away than most. Her husband and small daughter are 10,000 miles away, a full 24-hour airplane flight away. They live in the Aceh Province of Indonesia, and Fitriani is one of nine students in the first cohort to study in the United States under the Tsunami Fulbright Initiative supported by the Bush-Clinton Fund. The two former presidents established the fund to assist in the recovery of Indonesia following the 2004 tsunami that devastated the continent. Read More »
Student Brings in Contributions for College
Rachelle Bonner bagged a six-point buck during the opening weekend of deer season in early November. The elementary education major has also bagged numerous contributions to the College of Education and Health Professions since she began working part time in June to raise money for the University of Arkansas. Student Ambassadors Named
The College of Education and Health Professions announced the selection this fall of four student ambassadors to represent the college. The students, all juniors, and their majors are Ellen Snowden, nursing; Wade Cunningham and Hiedi Hoffman, kinesiology; and Christy Cameron, communication disorders. Read More »
Recreation Students Assist in Holiday Kickoff
Merry Moiseichik gave the city of Fayetteville an early gift this holiday season. The University of Arkansas associate professor of recreation loaned her master’s class of recreation students to the Chamber of Commerce and Fayetteville Convention and Visitors Bureau to help plan the annual parade that kicks off the Lights of the Ozarks and the Holiday Hoops high school basketball tournament. Be in the Know
The home page of the College of Education and Health Professions’ Web site takes on a new look this month in an ongoing effort to make the site easier to use.
New features include a menu of careers that prospective students may want to investigate, additional viewing options such as large text and text only, a new left-side navigation menu to increase paths to finding information, and a calendar of events with links to event details.
Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to check the home page and departmental news and events pages for announcements and feature stories about people in the college. Users can subscribe to RSS feeds to alert them of new items on the site and to the university’s Daily Headlines to inform them of news from across campus.
