Gohn Transforms Student Papers Into E-Book

Lyle Gohn spent 40 years as a college administrator and professor, the last 25 at the University of Arkansas. He finished his tenure last spring but recently completed a project that incorporated the work of his students over the previous eight years of teaching. It’s a book designed to help other student affairs professionals gain a better understanding of the numerous student subpopulations, including changes and issues, demographics, developmental theories, student retention and benefits of college degrees. UA Graduate Named Earth Science Teacher of Year

Ryan Henry

Ryan Henry, a 2004 graduate of the University of Arkansas, recently won a national award for teaching children earth science the way he thinks they learn best -- by experiencing the subject out in the field.

During the 2005-06 school year, Henry took students at Street School in Tulsa, Okla., on trips to visit oil fields, rock quarries and a local nature preserve to learn about geology and earth science during a six-week curriculum program. Read More »


Joshua Barnett

Doctoral Fellow Studying New Zealand Education

Joshua Barnett, a University of Arkansas doctoral student, traveled to New Zealand in January to study the country's education system and policies. He'll spend 10 months at Massey University in Palmerston North, New Zealand, on a Rotary Ambassadorial Research Scholarship. Read More »


Resources Available

Faculty members can borrow a copy of "Silas Hunt: A Documentary," a one-hour film created by the School of Continuing Education and Academic Outreach Media Services to use in their classes. The documentary chronicles the life of Silas Hunt from his upbringing in segregated Arkansas and his heroic military service during World War II to his historic entrance into the University of Arkansas in 1948. Contact Barbara Hinton, associate dean for academic affairs, to borrow the CD.

Arkansas teachers can receive a free series of five posters on "Amazing African American Leaders of Arkansas" from the Special Collections Department, University of Arkansas Libraries. Anita Mysore, curriculum developer in Special Collections, developed lesson plans and other instructional aids that are printed on the backs of the posters. Mysore is also a 2004 Ph.D. graduate of the Curriculum and Instruction Department in the College of Education and Health Professions. Read More »
