This checklist applies to all teaching areas for both MAT students and non-MAT students.
Procedures for the Master of Arts in Teaching Candidates
Students who are completing a Master of Arts in Teaching degree and are interested in obtaining an Arkansas teacher's license need to accomplish all of the following in order to have a valid application and be considered for employment in Arkansas public schools:
Procedures for Non-MAT Teaching Candidates
Students who are completing licensure requirements in a non-MAT program and are interested in obtaining an Arkansas teacher's license need to attend the licensing information meeting held each April prior to the start of their teaching experience. To learn more, visit Non-MAT Licensure.
Licensure in Other States
Usually, licensure in another state is facilitated by qualifying for a license in Arkansas. An application in another state must be made on the application form for the state which can be obtained by request from the state teacher certification office in the capital city. An official transcript should accompany the application. In many instances, the applications are referred to the preparing institution's certification officer to verify the completion of a program approved by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education.
