Scholarships

Honors convocation 01

Endowments are the premier type of scholarship assistance in the College of Education and Health Professions and serve as a permanent source of income for the institution and, consequently, our student recipients. For the 2006-07 academic year, more than 58 privately funded scholarships were awarded to more than 194 students. We are grateful for every gift from our alumni and friends. Your financial support has been a magnificent investment in assisting thousands of students in obtaining their education. Without the generosity of our alumni and friends, many of these students might never have had the opportunity to go to college and excel.

Faculty Research

education reform ceremony

Faculty endowments ensure the future strength and success of the College of Education and Health Professions by providing significant resources to attract and support faculty members. During the Campaign for the Twenty-First Century, the number of professorship endowments grew substantially, allowing the college to welcome a number of new faculty members recruited from our 54 benchmark institutions. Many of these new faculty members will work on vital research with our established faculty members while also bringing new projects with them.

Faculty Spotlight
Teaching Biology Means Teaching Evolution

Dr. William McComas was appointed in 2006 to the Parks Family Endowed Professorship in Science and Technology Education. This appointment represents a significant step in the effort by the college to develop a cadre of faculty in science and math education. Dr. McComas joins established faculty members at the University of Arkansas in developing a strong Ph.D.-level science education curriculum. Without the generosity of the Parks family of Prairie Grove and the Prairie Grove Telephone Co., and their commitment to science and technology education, the endowed professorship position held by Dr. McComas would not have been possible.

Research and Outreach Programs

Young Scholars 2005

The College of Education and Health Professions is strongly committed to enlarging and supporting a cadre of research and outreach programs. There are currently 19 research programs and outreach centers within the college. Many of these research and outreach programs would not be able to continually serve the University of Arkansas, the state, or the community without the generous private gift support from our alumni and friends.
