Rehabilitation Graduate Program Ranked Among Best

The rehabilitation education and research program of the College of Education and Health Professions has been recognized in the 2008 edition of U.S. News and World Report's annual "America's Best Graduate Schools."

The program is ranked 15th among graduate rehabilitation counseling programs in the annual U.S. News survey. The only other graduate program at the University of Arkansas to be named in the magazine was the School of Law, which was listed among the most diverse law schools in the country and was ranked with 35 other schools in the third tier of the best American law schools. Alumna's Work With At-Risk Teens Wins National Recognition

Coaches have long touted the life lessons their athletes learn while playing organized sports -- teamwork, leadership, focus, selflessness, believing in oneself, caring for others. Deb Walter takes a similar philosophy way beyond the football field or softball diamond. She applies it to all students regardless of their athletic ability, emphasizing instead recreational activities to keep their bodies fit and their minds clear. Read More »

Firefighters focus on protecting lives and property, but sometimes that focus is so narrow they put themselves in danger on the way to the scene of a call. Program Offers Chance for Advancement

The Bachelor of Science in Education with a human resource development concentration in the College of Education and Health Professions is offered by distance education, linking Fayetteville with two-year colleges around Arkansas to meet the needs of working adults for a university education without leaving jobs or families. Margie R. Blake, right, will receive her bachelor's degree from the University of Arkansas on May 12. She and her classmate, Nancy Heard, were among more than 150 students in the human resource development program who attended the spring semester cohort dinner March 30 at the Clarion Inn in Fayetteville.

I found out about the HRD Program from a very good friend Addie Chandler. She told me about the program when she was in it and tried to persuade me to enroll. However, at the time it was too late for me to enroll. I had to wait for the upcoming year. I was anticipating the new year while Addie kept on encouraging me to continue trying. For a while I told myself that I can't go back to school. Addie insisted that I return to school. Finally, I gained courage to enroll and get back on track. Read More »
