2007 School Nurse Summer Institute Schedule

Aug. 1-3

Each day starts with registration, breakfast and networking from 7:45 to 8 a.m. Nursing professors Marianne Neighbors and Kathleen Barta lead community- and skill-building warm-ups from 8 to 8:30 a.m. The professors lead action plan sessions each afternoon, too.

Wednesday, Aug. 1

8:30 to 9:15 a.m. Grant writing overview by Shannon Davis, assistant dean of research for the University of Arkansas College of Engineering
9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Local grant opportunities by Darlene Cheatham, registered nurse, former Lincoln school nurse and now continuing education coordinator for Arkansas Health Education Center-Northwest
11 a.m. to noon State funding opportunities by Rhonda Sanders, director of health policy and legislative affairs for Arkansas Advocates for Children in Little Rock
1 to 2 p.m. Medicaid 101 by Anna Riggs, registered nurse and consultant

Thursday, Aug. 2

8:30 to 9:15 a.m. Standards of practice by Paula Smith, registered nurse and state school nurse consultant for the Arkansas Department of Education
9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Delegation in school nursing by Bettie Miller, instructor in the Eleanor Mann School of Nursing
11 a.m. to noon Environmental health standards by Cecilia Santos, a registered nurse on staff in the Eleanor Mann School of Nursing
1 to 2 p.m. Legal issues by Kimberly Hopkins, doctoral student at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences

Friday, Aug. 3

8:30 to 9:15 a.m. Stress management by Marianne Neighbors, professor of nursing in the Eleanor Mann School of Nursing
9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Conflict resolution strategies by Sue Theiss, director of the University of Arkansas Student Mediation/Conflict office
11 a.m. to noon Personal financial security by Bart Allard, certified public accountant with Lundy Allard & Co. in Rogers
1 to 2 p.m. Self-defense by Cpl. David Williams of the Fayetteville Police Department
