Drama-Speech Licensure, Grades 7-12

All course requirements are subject to change. Students must meet current state requirements at time of application for graduation.

Licensure for teaching requires completion of the bachelor's degree in Fulbright College and completion of the Master of Arts in Teaching degree in the College of Education and Health Professions. Admission to the MAT degree program requires admission to the Graduate School. Refer to the Graduate School for the GPA requirements. Refer to the Teacher Licensure Checklist.

  1. Complete the BA degree with a major in communications or drama.
  2. Complete the following classes with a grade of "C" or higher:
  • Computer competencies will be demonstrated by candidate in a portfolio or by taking CIED 1003-Introduction to Technology in Education.
  • CIED 4131-Practicum in Secondary Education. It is preferred that you take this class no later than the Fall semester of your senior year.
  • CIED 4023-Teaching in Inclusive Secondary Setting.

Communications majors must take the following drama courses:

  • DRAM 1223 Introduction to Dramatic Art
  • DRAM 2683, Acting II
  • DRAM 1313 and 1313L Stage Technology I
  • DRAM 3653 Directing I
  • DRAM 1683 Acting I
  • DRAM 1322 Stage Technology II

Drama majors must take the following communication courses:

  • COMM 2373 Introduction to Debate
  • COMM 2351 Parliamentary Procedures
  • COMM 3303 Small-Group Communication
  • COMM 4793 Directing Forensics
  • COMM 2303 Public Speaking

    3. Students are advised to obtain an additional licensure area.
