College of Education and Health Professions

Foreign Language Licensure, Grades 7-12

All course requirements are subject to change. Students must meet current state requirements at time of application for graduation.

Licensure for teaching requires completion of the bachelor's degree in Fulbright College and completion of the Master of Arts in Teaching degree in the College of Education and Health Professions. Admission to the MAT degree program requires admission to the Graduate School. Refer to the Graduate School for the GPA requirements. Refer to the Teacher Licensure Checklist.

  1. Complete the BA degree with a major in French, German or Spanish.
  2. Complete the following classes with a grade of "C" or higher:
  • CIED 4131-Practicum in Secondary Education. It is preferred that you take this class no later than the fall semester of your senior year.
  • CIED 4013 - Senior Capstone Course. This course is offered only during the spring semester. It is to meet all the ACTFL standards for teacher education that must be fulfilled in the content courses. Students will compile a portfolio in the target language with several pieces of evidence from their content classes. 
  • CIED 4023-Teaching in Inclusive Secondary Setting.

     3. Pass Oral Proficiency Examination (OPI) in French, German, or Spanish with a rating of High-Intermediate on the ACTFL/ETS test (taken at end of senior year).
