Options Available to Communicate With Students

Posted on 11/8/2007

The College of Education and Health Professions offers several options to help faculty members communicate with students. The following guidelines have been approved by Barbara Hinton, associate dean for academic affairs, and John Murry, associate dean for administration.

Digital message boards

The college operates 10 digital message boards that are located on all floors of the Graduate Education Building, on the second floor of Peabody Hall and the third floor of the HPER Building. A primary purpose of these boards is to communicate information to students as well as to inform faculty members, staff members and the public about events and programs of the college. Faculty and staff members may submit information to run on the signboards to Dianne Stout, director of information services, at wstout@uark.edu or Heidi Stambuck, director of communications, at stambuck@uark.edu. Please submit an item at least one week before you would like it to start running.

Broadcast e-mail

Sending a broadcast e-mail to the college’s entire student body can be arranged by contacting Dianne Stout. These e-mails must contain information that is needed by all students. Contact Dianne at 575-2638 or wstout@uark.edu to request a broadcast e-mail be sent.

Targeted e-mail

If faculty members want to e-mail smaller groups of students, such as by program or major, Dianne can provide that contact information, but faculty members will be responsible for sending the e-mail. Those e-mail addresses can also be retrieved from a package of student information in spreadsheet format that Dianne sends electronically to each department head at the beginning of each semester. An online form requesting e-mail addresses for a specific group is available online at http://coehp.uark.edu/2319.htm under the subhead Request Form. It requires the department head’s signature.

Daily Headlines

All faculty members, staff members and students are free to submit informational items to Daily Headlines on the University of Arkansas home page. Go to this link http://dailyheadlines.uark.edu/ and click on Submit Info near the bottom of the left side menu. Items submitted before noon to Daily Headlines will generally be posted the next day. Subscribers to Daily Headlines receive an e-mail each morning with these items as well as links to news releases issued by the University of Arkansas. Faculty members may want to tell students about this communication option and ask them to subscribe.

College Web site

The College of Education and Health Professions Web site has an area on the home page called Announcements & Reminders. Send items you would like listed there to Heidi at stambuck@uark.edu. Again, faculty members who think they may use this option should ask students to monitor the Web site.

Please contact Heidi at stambuck@uark.edu or 575-3138 or Dianne at wstout@uark.edu or 575-2638 if you have any questions.
