Jennifer M. Miles, assistant professor of higher education, has been elected secretary of the national Council for the Advancement of Higher Education Programs. The council is a standing body within the Association for the Study of Higher Education and develops assessment measures, standards, and accrediting regulations for graduate programs that study higher education.
Miles, who joined the University of Arkansas faculty in the higher education leadership program in 2006, began her new duties at the 2007 Annual Meeting in Louisville, Ky.
"I'm excited to be a part of the decision-making body that is guiding our profession, especially as it relates to building the criteria and standards that will frame all of our graduate programs in the future," she said.
Prior to the election, Miles was an active member of the association's conference paper review process. She also presented her work on funding higher education programs with John Murry, associate professor of higher education, at the council's most recent meeting.
Miles holds a doctoral degree in higher education from the University of Alabama, and she is an expert on issues surrounding college women's health and self-image. She teaches courses related to identity development, student development theory and relating college administrative services to the unique needs of students.
