COEHP Faculty Council Minutes

Professional Development Academy - Judith Tavano

The mission of the Professional Development Academy is to reach into the work community to work with the college and partners to provide professional development. They want to know how they can serve faculty. They can help provide professional development programs that would help in research, teaching and service. Brainstorming was done on what issues might be helpful to faculty and what constraints they might need to overcome for success.

Undergraduate Advisement Council - Barbara Goodman

An Undergraduate Advisement Council has been created that will involve faculty from each College program. They will be looking at what will be useful information for the faculty in communicating with faculty advisors. When they get feedback, they will send out a survey to the general faculty.

Faculty Senate

Last year we only had 3 members in the Faculty Senate. Next year we will be back to four members and 2 members are rolling off. So we will need to elect three members. We will elect 2 members for a 2 year term and 1 member for a 1 year term so that there will be 2 members rolling off each year.

College Faculty Awards

There was discussion of changing the awards' criteria such as most innovative teaching or advising instead of having huge reams of material submitted. The Council is the awards committee according to the new governance document. George will track down the awards criteria. We will evaluate the awards for this year at the next meeting.

New Programs

Should the faculty council have oversight of new programs? There is a Course and Programs committee and it does post its agenda on the website. We did not feel we needed to add another step to the process.

Personnel Document

A ROUGH draft of the personnel document was sent to the Council members. George had several concerns.

They are looking at a point system - a point system does not include quality
They are considering a quartile system - continuous is better
They are considering 2 raise pools with tenure getting 60% and clinical getting 40%. - this may not work out statistically just keep it proportional to the salary.
They are multiplying the points by the workload percentage - If it is a point structure, he thinks we should just let the points work.
For post tenure review, it is suggesting that a person will be terminated if they are in the bottom quartile for 5 years. He believes 5 years is too long.

Merry said these questions would be brought to the personnel documents committee.
