Personnel Document Committee Discontinues Work

Posted on 6/2/2008

MEMORANDUM

TO:        College of Education and Health Professions Faculty

FROM:  M. Reed Greenwood, Dean

DATE:   May 20, 2008

RE:        Personnel Document

A task force consisting of faculty, staff, and administrators has met for over a year to consider revisions to the College Personnel Document. Throughout that time, the College Council representatives have also sought to gather input from faculty and staff. Although the task force has worked diligently to review all aspects of the current personnel document, a clear consensus has not been reached regarding recommended changes to the current document. Therefore, I have decided to discontinue any further work on a revised document for the coming year.

The following is in effect for the 2008-2009 academic year:

  1. The Personnel Document, often referred to as the Rosewood document, will continue to be in effect.
  2. Workloads will be negotiated between the department head and the individual faculty member, with percentages assigned to teaching, advising, research, and service.
  3. Department Heads will use a 0-10 point scale to rate faculty performance. Current criteria in the Personnel Document will be used.
  4. Final ratings will be linked to workload assignment percentages.
  5. Distribution of merit pay will be by department. Departments will subdivide the merit pay into two pools, as applicable per department: Tenure/tenure-track faculty pool and non-tenure pool.
  6. Persons receiving a rating below 6 on a 0-10 point scale will not receive a merit raise.
  7. The Denny Formula or a prior-approved plan for each department will be used for determining merit raises.

All policies and procedures within the college and departments must be consistent with established procedures in the University of Arkansas–Fayetteville Faculty Handbook. (http://www.uark.edu/admin/vcacsey/facultyhandbook/) and University of Arkansas Board of Trustees' policies (http://www.uark.edu/admin/vcfainfo/systempp/systemindex.html).

We want to hear from you. Please e-mail comments and feedback to Heidi Stambuck at stambuck@uark.edu.
