Nontraditional Licensure
The University of Arkansas' curriculum and instruction department offers a traditional licensure program. For information on nontraditional or alternative licensing, visit the Arkansas Department of Education at http://www.arkansased.org/teachers/nontraditional.html.
Currently, the University of Arkansas offers CIED 3093 and CIED 4123 as the reading classes required for admission to the Arkansas Department of Education's nontraditional licensure program. These are the reading courses approved for our institution by the Arkansas Department of Education.
You can locate the reading classes each semester by going to the schedule of classes at the university's ISIS Web site at https://isis.uark.edu/psp/epprd/EMPLOYEE/EMPL/h/?tab=PAPP_GUEST. On the search menu, there is a dropdown menu that allows you to choose off-campus as the location. When you enter CIED under undergraduate classes, it will pull up many courses. Please locate CIED 3093 Essentials of Literacy Sec. 901 offered MW 4:30-7:20. It is the first eight weeks. The other class is CIED 4123 Literacy Assessment and Interventions in the Classroom Sec. 901 offered MW 4:30-7:20 in the second eight weeks. Both courses are taught on the NorthWest Arkansas Community College campus in Bentonville. These classes are NOT taught online. If you have questions, please contact Kathy Malstrom at kkmalst@uark.edu.
In order to enroll in these classes, you must apply and be admitted to the University of Arkansas as a non-degree-seeking undergraduate. Information on applying is available from the Admissions Office at http://admissions.uark.edu/.
