Research Mentors: SURF Online Application Available

Dear SURF Research Mentors:
The SURF online application is ready. Please go to:
http://fellowships.uark.edu/SURF/SURFApplicationPacket_2008.pdf
to review the application with your students and to complete your part of the application. Please do use this format and not an older version as this one has the new financial forms and budget narrative. Students will no longer earn an hourly wage. Once students select a grant period (spring, spring/summer, spring/summer/fall, spring fall), the dollar amounts will be automatically filled in.
Tips for the mentor letters include:
Address student's academic (especially research) abilities and
performances
Outline significance of the student's project
Indicate student's ability to complete the project
Comment on student's ability to meet the schedule and to live up to
commitments
Avoid long paragraphs that are included in more than one
letter, describing the lab or the larger project
Outline the mentor's advisory role, explaining what the mentor has to
bring to the project
Address all letters to the SURF Selection Committee.
Use official letterhead and sign
Submit 1 original and three copies inside one sealed envelope.
Please sign across the seal.
We will not accept letters that have been opened in order to protect confidentiality.
