The mission of the College of Education and Health Professions is to enhance the quality of life of the citizens of Arkansas, the nation, and the world through the development of scholar-practitioners in education, health, and human services. The vision of the college is become a nationally competitive, student-centered research college serving Arkansas and the world.

The goals of the College of Education and Health Professions are as follows:

The College of Education and Health Professions is composed of five departments of study that offer students a wealth of undergraduate and graduate choices in their professional preparation. The College of Education and Health Professions' departments are housed in buildings across campus: the Graduate Education Building, the Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) building, Ozark Hall, Peabody Hall, the Speech and Hearing Clinic, and the West Avenue Annex.

In addition, the College of Education and Health Professions' distance education classes are offered in several locations across Arkansas, and the Boyer Center for Student Services, the "one-stop" advising source for all College of Education and Health Professions students, is also available online.

The college also operates the Intramural/Recreational Sports department that serve the university's faculty, staff, students and alumni.

Curriculum and Instruction (CIED)

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction department is the academic unit that is primarily responsible for teacher preparation at the university. In 2001, the department's Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) preparation program was recognized as one of the leading teacher preparation programs in the United States. The American Association of Teacher Educators, the premier professional organization related to teacher preparation, awarded the M.A.T. program its annual Excellence in Teacher Preparation Program award. * The undergraduate middle level program must be completed by the end of spring 2010. Following spring 2010, the undergraduate middle level education program will be discontinued.


Education Reform (EDRE)

The Department of Education Reform is the newest department in the College of Education and Health Professions, established on July 1, 2005. Its creation was made possible through a $10 million private gift and an additional $10 million from the Matching Gift Program, established by the Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation. This gift is one of the largest ever received by any college of education in the country. The purpose of the department is to improve K-12 education in Arkansas and across the nation. Learn more »

Health Science, Kinesiology, Recreation and Dance (HKRD)

The mission of the Department of Health Science, Kinesiology, Recreation and Dance is to enhance the quality of life of the residents of Arkansas, the nation and the world through the development of scholar-practitioners in education, health and human services. The departmental faculty hold doctoral degrees from some of the very best universities in the nation, and they comprise a close-knit academic community that is dedicated to creating a supportive educational environment that provides numerous opportunities for students to become lifelong learners as they prepare to enter their respective professions. Rehabilitation, Human Resources and Communication Disorders faculty members have a strong, established record of research productivity and consistently lead the college in external grants and contracts. The Eleanor Mann School of Nursing (NURS)

The Eleanor Mann School of Nursing offers both undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. By the time nursing students graduate, many have received three or four job offers. The Honors Program

The college's Honors Program is designed for students who value and want to be challenged by an exceptional educational experience and want to focus their studies intensively. Intramural/Recreational Sports (IMRS)

The mission of the Intramural/Recreational Sports department is to provide a wide variety of quality recreational programs in a safe and secure environment to enhance the social, mental and physical well-being of the entire university community. As a result, IMRS performs a vital role in the recruitment, retention and education of students and personnel. Intramural/Recreational Sports is designed to meet the needs of each and every student in some manner. It is the largest student service program in the College of Education and Health Professions and on the university campus. It employs more than 300 students each year. It incorporates students in a number of leadership opportunities. It instills the desire for a healthy and enriched lifestyle. IMRS complements every academic program offered at the university and serves as a laboratory for unlimited educational endeavors.


Boyer Center for Student Services

The Boyer Center for Student Services is the advising center for undergraduate students in the College of Education and Health Professions. A primary goal of the advising center is to enhance the academic success, retention and graduation rates of students in the College of Education and Health Professions.
