Erin works with individuals who wish to support the college whether it is through annual gifts, establishing scholarships, programmatic gifts, planned gifts, or endowing professorships. She gets to connect with alumni, hearing their stories and educating them in UA research or endeavors. "Our job is to help match the donor's interest with the needs of the college."

In addition to working with alumni, Erin supervises the college's scholarship application process. She works with students who are interested in applying for scholarships and works closely with the scholarship faculty committees in preparing materials for the selection process.

She also works to set up opportunities for students to personally thank the donors throughout the year. Erin likes to see the personal connection between scholarship donors and scholarship recipients.

On top of the scholarship responsibilities, Erin works with Beth Russell, assistant to the dean, to coordinate all donor-related events within the college such as the annual Honors Convocation. She also oversees the activities and membership of the Dean's Advisory Council.

"Every day is different," Erin said.

"The best part of the job is working closely with people who love the University of Arkansas," she said. "Many of these individuals are alumni, but there are a number who aren't but still have a passion for the school and want to support the students and faculty in the college."

Before beginning at the UA as the assistant director of development, Erin did political fundraising for Arkansas Congressman Mike Ross in Washington, D.C., where she received her master's degree of legislative affairs at George Washington University.

She lived for two years in D.C. with her husband, David, who worked for Sen. Blanche Lincoln. The couple met at Ouachita Baptist University. David played football and Erin played basketball for the university while working on her undergraduate degree in political science and history.

"One of my favorite things about working for a member of the Arkansas Congressional delegation was it felt like I was never far away from home," Erin said. "Arkansans were always in the office whether it was to meet with the Congressman or to take a Capitol tour."

The Hogues moved back to Arkansas so David could attend the UA Law School. He will finish in May 2009 and plans to work in Fayetteville. Erin is currently working on her Ph.D. in history while she works at the college.

Fundraising within higher education is very different than political fundraising, Erin said.

"I've learned a lot and I'm still learning," she said.

David and Erin try to travel a lot.

"We are your typical tourists; we go to all the historical spots and try to find the best restaurants."

The Hogues like to go snow skiing during winter and to the beach during summer. They also like to take football trips.

"Every year, we go to an SEC football game in a place we've never been to," Erin said.

For hobbies, Erin plays tennis, goes running and spends time with family and friends.

Erin's mom and stepfather both work for Ouachita Baptist University and David's family is located in Fayetteville.

Erin is about three hours away from her parents and four siblings. Her grandmother lives in Centerton. "I enjoy being close to my family," she said.
