Judges Urgently Needed for Northwest Arkansas Regional Science and Engineering Fair

Posted on 3/3/2009

Judging assistance is needed for the Northwest Arkansas Regional Science and Engineering Fair on Friday, March 13, in the Arkansas Union Ballroom. Judging experience is not necessary, as those with no prior experience will be teamed with others who have judged before.

Although not used as judges, undergraduate students are needed during the fair to help with general tasks such as registration, safety and display, award setup, tabulation checks, and general "gopher" assistance. Any volunteer for any amount of time can and will be extremely useful.

A judges' meeting will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 10. Further details will follow closer to fair time. If you are able to help, e-mail Lynne Hehr at lhehr@uark.edu.

2009 Judging Schedule:

  • 8:30 a.m. – Coffee and breakfast snacks in Union
  • 8:30 a.m. – Display and Safety begins
  • 9 a.m. – General judging begins in Union Ballroom
  • 11 a.m. – Lunch setup for judges and helpers
  • 11:30 a.m. – All general judging completed and final results submitted
  • 11:45 a.m. – Tabulations begin
  • Noon – Award collation
  • Noon – "Special Awards" judging begins
  • 12:15 p.m. – Junior Academy Oral Presentation
  • 4:30 p.m. - Awards Ceremony in Arkansas Union

The following chart illustrates the critical need for the Northwest Arkansas Science and Engineering Fair held each year on the UA campus. With ~415 projects this year, we are ~100 projects over last year's numbers. There is also a need for undergraduates to assist with Display & Safety, tabulations, Junior Academy oral presentation critique, and awards.
