RE: Guide to Disruptive Behavior/ Academic Honesty Information

Dear All,

It is my hope that your 2008-2009 academic year is coming to a close in a wonderful way and that you have experienced many successes this year. The Office of the Dean of Students would like to thank you for your commitment to student success and invite you to utilize the attached information. As the semester winds down, some of you may be confronted with individuals who are dealing with a host of personal and academic issues. The attached information will be a valuable resource in addressing these issues in a fair, consistent, and compassionate manner. The attached information is inclusive of two guides that address both Academic Dishonesty and Dealing with Disruptive Behavior. It is my hope that you will take the time to forward this information to all instructors and those in your departments who can benefit from this information. The Academic Dishonesty handout provides detailed information regarding how to handle circumstances where it is suspected that a student has violated the Academic Honesty policy and also provides tips for detection, confrontation and prevention of Academic Dishonesty. The Guide to Dealing with Disruptive Behavior provides information for dealing with disruptive behavior in the classroom and other settings and provides information regarding the prevention and consequences of disruptive behavior.

Please watch your campus mail as in the next several days as you will be receiving the Faculty 911 folder. This folder is designed to be a desktop reference for dealing with issues that require immediate action. Please be sure to make this information available to front office staff that may be dealing with difficult issues. Finally, the Office of the Dean of Students provides departmental presentations regarding both topics and staff is available to conduct these presentations at your request.

In addition, Counseling and Psychological Services provides a presentation regarding how to deal with students in crisis. These presentations can be very helpful in dealing with students who may be dealing with difficult issues or experiencing mental health related issues. For further information regarding this topic please contact Dr. Jonathan Perry at 575-5276.

Once again we hope you have had a wonderful 2008-2009 academic year and encourage you to contact the Office of the Dean of Students at 575-5004 should you have a need to.

Respectfully,

Aisha S. Kenner
