IMRS Student Employee Performs CPR at Local Restaurant
Posted by Brittany Grinstead on 7/15/2009
About two or three weeks ago, A.J. Atashband was walking out of Red Lobster when he noticed an individual giving CPR to a man. He offered to take over CPR when the first rescuer became too tired to continue. The first rescuer on scene had performed CPR for a few minutes when A.J. arrived. A 9-1-1 call had already gone out and A.J. continued CPR until paramedics arrived on scene.
When paramedics arrived, they applauded A.J. and the other individual for the excellent and proper care given. They had correctly performed CPR together and saved the man's life! (A.J. is a facility assistant at the HPER Building. He scans IDs, provides services to members and guests and provides security of the building.)
I want to congratulate and recognize A.J. for his service and preparedness in this rescue!
This is a perfect example of why we take so much time and effort in training student employees in the Department of Intramural/Recreational Sports. Whether it is on the job, in school, or in daily life, training to be certified in CPR/First Aid is vital; just as well, are the countless hours of additional work-related trainings conducted in the HPER Building every year.
This is an excellent reminder and encouragement to us to be currently certified in CPR/First Aid, so we can be prepared and actively help when emergencies arise in and out of the workplace.
We want to hear from you. Please e-mail comments and feedback to Brittany Grinstead at bgrinste@uark.edu.
