Event: MAT Mentor/Intern Training for Foreign Languages
Date: Tuesday, July 28
Location: PEAH 312
Time: 1:30-4:00
Description: Two-hour Professional Development Workshop for Mentor Teachers in Foreign Languages from Bentonville, Fayetteville, Rogers, Siloam Springs, and Springdale School Districts.
Purpose: The purpose of this workshop is threefold: to introduce interns to mentor teachers in order to build a collaborative learning community within and across content languages, school districts, and levels of instruction; to establish the roles and expectations of supervisor, mentors, and interns; and promote collaborative action research projects among participants in the three content languages of French, German, and Spanish. Participants include foreign language department chairs, experienced and novice mentors, interns, and myself as university supervisor and professor of foreign language education.
Outcomes: Mentors, interns, and University Supervisor will understand their respective roles and responsibilities of the internship, determine action research possibilities for interns to pursue, and create the foundation for a collaborative learning community across school districts, languages, and levels of instruction.
Participants: Nine interns--three in French, two in German, and four in Spanish. Twenty teachers including department heads, and me. Dr. Daugherty will give the welcome and Dr. Wavering will greet the group as Program Chair for Secondary Education.
