Judith Tavano's Session at Diversity Conference Focuses on Generations in Workplace
Posted on 9/4/2009
Judith Tavano, an adjunct instructor in the College of Education and Health Professions, will present "What HR Professionals Should Know About Generational Diversity and Why" at the third annual Northwest Arkansas Human Resources Association Diversity Conference on Thursday, Sept. 10.
The theme of the conference, which will be held at the Holiday Inn Conference Center in Springdale, is "Diversity and Inclusion: A Business Priority." Registration may be done online by visiting http://www.noark.org/ and clicking on Diversity Conference on the left.
In Tavano's session, participants will learn what generational diversity is and its impact in the workplace, how to work effectively with each generational cohort and how to pass on what they learn to their organizations.
"I believe it is important for HR professionals to understand that the days of ‘one size fits all' HR practice is no longer effective in today's organizations," she said. "The four generations working shoulder to shoulder in today's workplaces come to work with different sets of experiences and expectations, and they reflect these differences in their behaviors. HR professionals can benefit from learning how to recognize and work with these differences to promote organizational effectiveness."
One hour of Human Resource Certification Institute recertification general credit is available for this session.
Tavano began teaching in the college's human resource development program in 2004 and has more than 30 years' experience in human resource management and development. She is also coordinator of human resource programs for the Global Campus at the University of Arkansas. She has researched and presented on issues related to generation diversity in the workplace for five years.
