The department of rehabilitation, human resources and communication disorders in the College of Education and Health Professions is sponsoring an international visiting scholar for a third consecutive year.
Gamal Fayed, professor of special education at Egypt's Mansoura University, is spending the summer and fall semesters conducting research as part of a team. His research agenda spans disciplines throughout the college and is particularly tied to work of the counselor education, rehabilitation and special education programs. In addition to conducting research, Fayed will present comparative discussions on Egyptian higher education and teacher training.
"We are very excited and fortunate to have Dr. Fayed with us this fall," said Fran Hagstrom, interim department head. "He comes to us from a very prestigious university in Egypt, and his presence in the department represents our continued commitment to globalization and exposing our students to a diversity of thinking and structures."
Fayed's work is sponsored by the Egyptian government and will include visits to area schools and parent meetings that involve special education programs.
Previous visiting scholars were Ching-ju Fu from Taiwan and Ahmed Helal from Tanta University in Egypt.
