Professional Biography:

Sharon Hunt holds the academic rank of Professor and was the Department Head of Health Science, Kinesiology, Recreation and Dance (renamed Health, Human Performance and Recreation) for 21 years. She serves as faculty athletics representative to the NCAA and the Southeastern Conference. She has also served in the capacity of Interim Dean of the College of Education and Health Professions (2000-01). Prior to coming to the University of Arkansas in 1990, Dr. Hunt was an Assistant/Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion at the University of Kentucky (1977-1990) where she also served as Director of Graduate Studies from 1984-1990. As Department Head of Health Science, Kinesiology, Recreation and Dance, Dr. Hunt was responsible for providing leadership to a diverse faculty who delivered undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degree programs to approximately 1100 undergraduate majors and 150 graduate students. She serves as the Faculty Athletics Representative for the University of Arkansas which requires her to certify the eligibility of approximately 460 athletes competing in 19 different sports, and she represents the University of Arkansas at various SEC and NCAA meetings.

Academic Interests and Accomplishments:

Sharon Hunt has authored and co-authored over 50 refereed manuscripts and technical papers and made in excess of 60 state, regional, national or international refereed presentations. She has secured over $1 million in contracts to support graduate assistant stipends for students in HKRD. She has served on numerous boards, task forces, and committees that have rendered services to national, state, and local agencies involved in the delivery of health, recreation and/or educational services. In 2001, she was listed in the International Who’s Who of Professional and Business Women. In 2002, she was recognized as the Higher Educator of the Year by the Arkansas Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

Personal Information:

Sharon Hunt is married to David Hunt, a middle school physical education teacher in the Fayetteville School District. She and David have two grown children. Their son, Justin, is a psychiatrist who is an Assistant Professor at UAMS in Little Rock.  He is married to the former Katy Gearhart, and they have one son, Benjamin David Hunt (Ben).  Their daughter, Ashley, is an attorney in the Environmental Compliance Division of Wal-Mart at the corporate headquarters in Bentonville, AR.  Sharon loves the outdoors and participates in such sports as tennis, hiking, and fly fishing, and she enjoys music, travel, reading, cheering on the Razorbacks, and spending quality time with her family.
