students on University of Arkansas campus

From the beginning, the founders of the University of Arkansas understood the importance of preparing highly qualified teachers for the public schools and included an education department in the original land-grant university. Today, the college encompasses five departments that conduct vital research, offer service and expertise to the state and nation, and prepare students to be the professionals of tomorrow in education and health.

In addition to teaching more than two thousand graduate and undergraduate students on the Fayetteville campus, the college has responded to the particular needs of our state. Distance education has proven to be an effective way to develop professionals in the Arkansas communities and workplaces where they are needed.

Faculty and staff are committed to research that advances knowledge to answer tomorrow's questions. Throughout the college, students - both graduate and undergraduate - are involved in research projects that contribute to their fields while preparing them to be professionals capable of integrating theory and practice. College faculty are engaged at all levels - statewide, nationally and internationally - with other scholars and professionals in education and health.

Service is a key component of the college mission that, combined with research and teaching, leads to innovation. One could travel to almost any county in Arkansas and find there among the community's leaders, alumni of this college or individuals who look to this college for expertise, for collaboration and for ongoing professional development.

For 131 years, the University of Arkansas has provided Arkansas and the world with graduates who are both highly trained and capable of responding thoughtfully to the complexities of the times.
