Student Check-In

Check in for degree candidates begins at 4 p.m. under the large white tents near the truck tunnel on the east side of Bud Walton Arena (off West Clinton Drive).

It is the responsibility of the student to review their "Commencement Card" information for accuracy. The card must be taken to the stage during the ceremony for announcement of name and degree information. Any changes to the card information will be reviewed for content by a commencement official prior to crossing the stage.

Students will line up by academic department. Signs will be posted in the truck tunnel to indicate the start of a department's line. After picking up their Commencement Card at the white tents, students should begin lining up in the truck tunnel no later than 5 p.m. for the processional. If students are not in place by 5:20 p.m., inclusion in the ceremony may not be possible.

It is recommended that students make arrangements with their guests or family members to take care of their personal items such as coats, purses, cameras, flowers etc., as they cannot be left behind at the check-in tables. Personal items are not allowed in the student line-up areas or on the arena floor during the ceremony. Also, please arrive to the ceremony wearing your regalia.

Students with special needs who will require accommodations during the ceremony should email Lori Foster by Monday, May 8, so that necessary arrangements can be made.

Procession

Degree candidate recipients will be individually recognized during the ceremony. Candidates are escorted to the stage. Once at the platform, they wait for their name to be announced then they advance across the platform to accept the diploma cover in their left hand as they shake hands with a university official. After accepting the diploma cover the candidates will proceed across the stage and follow the line to the photography station. Once the candidate has taken a posed photo, they return to their seats until the ceremony concludes. Note – diplomas are mailed six to eight weeks following commencement, once graduation clearance has been completed by the dean's office.

During the ceremony, tassels are worn on the left side of the cap as degrees are conferred at the All University Commencement ceremony earlier in the day.
