Air Force ROTC Cadet Among December Nursing Graduates

A member of the Air Force Reserve Officers' Training Corps was among 44 fall graduates of the Eleanor Mann School of Nursing at the University of Arkansas to receive their nursing pins in a candlelight ceremony Dec. 17 in Fayetteville. Capt. J. T. Hawk administered the U.S. Air Force Oath of Office to 2nd Lt. Morgan Bodie of Addison, Texas, and her cousin, Lance Cpl. Blake Womack, an active duty Marine, administered her first salute.
Pinning ceremonies date back to before the turn of the 20th century, marking the passage of student nurse to practicing nurse. After the students are pinned, they light candles and recite the pledge named for Florence Nightingale, an English nurse known for her pioneering work in nursing during the Crimean War and for laying the foundation of professional nursing with the establishment in 1860 of her nursing school in London.
Peggy Parks of Prairie Grove, a generous benefactor of the College of Education and Health Professions, and Chancellor G. David Gearhart addressed the graduates.
