College Alum Logs 40 Years as Science Teacher in Leavenworth, Kan.

When he came to Leavenworth High School 40 years ago, Bob Hart intended to stay only one year. Hart’s goal was to return to Arkansas where he spent his youth.

Graduate Named Superintendent of Iowa School District

Matthew Wendt

Matthew Wendt, a doctoral graduate of the College of Education and Health Professions, was hired in 2006 as the new superintendent of the Ankeny, Iowa, school district. Ankeny is a town just north of Des Moines.

Wendt, 38, left his position as assistant superintendent for learning in Pittsburg (Kan.) Community Schools to become the Ankeny superintendent. Wendt was the unanimous choice among school board members and community focus groups, according to the Des Moines Register.

For Derrick Gragg, earning multiple advanced degrees means dreams fulfilled. They are accomplishments made in tribute to a mother who modeled the discipline and drive to succeed, earning three advanced degrees of her own.
