Since arriving at the University of Arkansas in 2010, Dr. Bengtson has published in the Journal of School Leadership, Journal of Educational Administration, and Educational Management Administration and Leadership along with several other journals related to school leadership. He continues to present papers at the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA) and the American Education Research Association (AERA). The succession and socialization of principals including the preparation of school leaders through professional degree programs and bridging the gap between the theory of leadership and the reality of practice provide the focus of the research agenda that Dr. Bengtson has established. He has been involved with the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED) as a researcher and contributing member, and has been active in the transformation of the University of Arkansas Educational Leadership Program’s Ed.D.

Dr. Bengtson thoroughly enjoys teaching in both the Master’s and Doctorate Educational Leadership programs. His previous experience as a public school administrator brings a realistic prospective to courses addressing instructional leadership, supervision and evaluation of teaching, the principalship, the relationship between schools and society, qualitative research, and program evaluation.
