In response to the “graying of America,” the College of Education and Health Professions, in collaboration with the Graduate School, established the Office for Studies on Aging in the fall of 1999.
The Office for Studies on Aging is located in the HPER Building on the University of Arkansas campus, in room 326A, Fayetteville, AR 72701.
Age Friendly Fayetteville is an initiative to establish Fayetteville, Ark., as a World Health Organization Age Friendly City. This movement is a collaboration between the city of Fayetteville, Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce, and University of Arkansas. The purpose of the initiative is to use the World Health Organization Age-Friendly Cities model as a strategy to establish Fayetteville, Ark., as an age-friendly city. So…what is Age Friendly? According to the World Health Organization, Age Friendly is …an inclusive and accessible urban environment that promotes active aging” [by targeting] “environmental, social and economic factors that influence the health and well-being of older adults” [in the community].
