University of Arkansas' Celebration of Darwin!

darwin

This page is designed to provide information about the various events scheduled to celebrate the life and work of Charles Darwin during the bicentennial of his birth (April 12, 1809) and the sesquicentennial of the publication of the Origin of Species (Nov. 24, 1859). Events will be posted here as they become available with details about location, costs, and contact information.

The events listed here are those scheduled in association with the University of Arkansas or accessible to the faculty and staff of the University and community. For a more comprehensive list of events beyond this region, please consult the Darwin Day Web site.

Upcoming Events

Returning in the fall, Special Collections of Mullins Library will have a wonderful exhibit of books and illustrations on the life and work of Charles Darwin.

The highlight of this collection is a copy of the First Edition of Origin of Species -- one of only 1,250 ever printed! The display is the work of exhibit curator Valerie Robertson.

This exhibit will be available again in the fall to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the publication of Origin of Species and to continue to the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin.
